Behind the lens: Kenda Al Yakobi

Leading a story of Iraqi-Palestinian Canadian heritage weaved with visual magic, authenticity, social justice, and motherhood.

My photographic memory is a living dark room. It imprints the faces of every soul I meet onto the walls of my consciousness, as I walk through the corridors of my life’s story.

For me, photography has always been a magical tool allowing us to hold onto moments that we could never forget. The moments we long to relive. The moments we can still feel, smell, hear, taste, and touch.

As we walk the real world painted with inequality and scarcity, these hopeful moments allow us to dream bigger, anchor ourselves in our values, and take action towards a future that makes us excited about every new day.

Photos aren’t just physical memories, they are stories that remind us of how much we have to be grateful for.

And when I hear whispers of women wishing they knew how to “take a good picture”, I am instantly inspired to challenge them in their thought process.

I live for the moments when my clients, friends and family see their true selves reflected in an image, in awe of how they have been captured so authentically and gracefully in their element.

We have all sprouted from some form of harsh truth that can trigger our self talk and thoughts about how we present to the outside world.

Let me guide you towards finding the beauty in your rawness with my candid and comforting style of visual storytelling.
